At Small World, our programs are based on the philosophy that young children learn best in an environment that affords them the opportunity to explore, discover, and enjoy the learning process while engaging in play. We believe in offering a program that promotes healthy development by creating a warm, loving, safe, healthy, positive and fun environment.
The daily routines allow for a balance of indoor and outdoor play, small and large group activities, and an afternoon rest period as well as snacks and lunch. Your child will have the opportunity to gain practice in language development, math readiness, creative play, social skills, fine and gross motor skills, music, and self-help skills which will help your child build his/her self-esteem and prepare him/her for school. Special emphasis is placed upon providing activities that build each child's self-esteem, provide opportunities for success, and encourage positive interaction with other children and adults based on mutual trust and respect.
Each classroom is divided into “Learning Centres” which include: creative art, housekeeping/dramatic play; science and sensory; unit block; cognitive; quiet corner and table top and manipulative toy area. As the child engages in play, the educator’s role is to provide personal care and individual support and attention. The educator is also the facilitator, recognizing that each child has different needs and progresses at a different pace.
Daily schedules and program plans are posted for each classroom to inform the parents of the different activities. These plans allow for indoor and outdoor play, quiet and active play, self-directed and structured time to enable the child to develop in all areas.
